Sources & scope

A catalogue you
can follow.

Bahari Blue brings works, people, organisations, events and Squid’s editorial archive into one connected catalogue.

Why Bahari Blue?

Bahari means ocean in Swahili. For Squid, it is the turf we swim in: a vast creative world with more to discover beneath the surface.

In 2019, Project Bahari was introduced as a connected database of African comics, animation, games, studios and geek events. Bahari Blue was its companion artist scrapbook, a place to share work that inspired Squid’s curators.

This revival brings that spirit of discovery into one searchable home. The yellow keeps Squid’s warmth; blue bubbles give a small nod to the ocean. Dive in reveals a random work or story from the combined catalogue, a starting point to read, watch, play or explore.

Three ways to use it

Discover something to read, watch or play. Find the makers and organisations behind it. Follow the evidence and history for your research.

This first selection

This is a sourced starter collection of 60 records. Search also indexes the full published Gamegbee digital-games feed and Awam’s published stories and editorial posts, with live refresh and bundled snapshots when those sites are unavailable. All 175 source comics records are indexed with Bahari reference pages. Reading links are available where the source provided one; missing links and unreliable metadata are marked honestly. More records will be added through editorial review.

Airtable enrichment

The local catalogue also includes current Airtable animation, organisation, credit and viewing-listing records. This is a point-in-time content snapshot. Verification labels and territorial viewing restrictions are preserved; they do not establish that a link will play in your country. Publication clearance for imported artwork remains separate.

Connections have evidence

Each relationship carries a source. Credits, screenings and editorial appearances are separate relationships. Article publication dates are not used as release dates. Historical event editions remain visible without being presented as upcoming events.

Events and date evidence

Browse event references from the July–December research registers and Squid’s animation festivals directory. Checked editions, press-supported dates, uncertain claims and festival series are labelled separately. Dates were checked on 14 October 2026 and can change. A past date is not by itself proof an event took place. Eight unsupported or adjacent leads remain in the editorial research queue.

Country connections

Country labels are broad discovery connections. A creator’s origin, production location and a story’s setting must be documented separately before a more specific claim is made.

Squid’s animation series

Weekly Animation Shorts is the selection series. aniRadar is the review series. Related reviews are linked here; individual historical Weekly Shorts selections still need recovery.

What comes next

Focus on works, studios and events. Keep sourced creator credits attached to works; building and maintaining a standalone creator directory is paused. Recover the original records and their relationships before expanding coverage.

Saved records

Your saved collection stays in this browser. There is no account or cross-device sync. If storage is unavailable, the page will tell you.
