Lake of Tears
Lake of Tears is a graphic novel which explores child trafficking on the Volta Lake in Ghana. In this coming of age story, three unlikely heroes get together to stop a trafficker from his recent stint perpetuating child slavery. With sheer wit, smarts and a bit of supernatural luck, our young heroes overcome the villain. Or do they?
An Innovative Dimension to Storytelling in Africa
At its core, “Lake of Tears” is a story of captivity and redemption. Set against the backdrop of Ghana’s hazardous inland fishing industry, this beautifully drawn, imaginatively written graphic novel will be released digitally – in four free installments – beginning November, 2017.
“Yes, there’s a social message,” says co-creator and illustrator, Setor Fiadzigbey, “but creatively, we didn’t hold back. It starts off normally, but then it gets very interesting, very, very quickly.” Indeed, writer and co-creator, Kobe Ofei, has written a brilliant, action-packed script that tells the story of three unstoppable teenagers from very different backgrounds who’ve decided enough is enough and band together to defeat their common enemy.
Created in partnership with Ghana’s Challenging Heights, which was founded in 2005 by former child slave James Kofi Annan, “Lake of Tears” will entertain, inform and inspire you to learn more about – and help prevent – child trafficking, forced child labor and child slavery.
